Faced with the housing crisis in Brussels, a family is adapting two bedrooms in their rented apartment, relying on reversible layouts to accommodate their children's growth while maintaining their quality of life.

APARTMENT RENTED IN IXELLES - 2/3

An 8m² single bedroom has been transformed into a double bedroom with an office area. More than just optimization, the goal was to create a feeling of generous space.

To this end, a cubic proportion has been recreated above the bed, highlighted by a suspended square wooden ceiling light. A translucent film applied to the windows preserves privacy while reinforcing the perception of space. The bed spans the entire width of the room (2.5m), evoking an abstract garden, while the suspended frame suggests an ideal sky, establishing a vertical dialogue and the sensation of a self-contained universe.

The wood finishes and the brown velvet curtain contribute to a warm and cozy atmosphere, the latter also reducing noise and adding a separation from the hallway.

APARTMENT RENTED IN IXELLES - 3/3

The 15 m² bedroom is partially subdivided by reusing a bunk bed, placed transversely against a wall. The younger child occupies the upper bunk bed, elevated in the center of the room with a view of the city, while the teenager enjoys the lower space, which is more private and accessible by going around the structure.

A translucent curtain filters the light and provides privacy between these two sleeping areas and an office space. The worktops, which extend across the entire width, emphasize the square proportions of the upper part of the walls, reinforcing the sense of space.
